CLEANING AND EXAM

The mouth is the gateway to the rest of your body. More and more, studies find greater connections between oral health and overall health (Mayo Clinic article). Routine hygiene appointments and exams are probably the most important service we provide for a few reasons.
If it has been a while since you've seen a dentist, rest assured, we are not here to judge or disparage. Our ultimate goal is to help you achieve a better quality of life through improved oral health.
- It is a great time for education. These services give credence to the saying that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" or "it is easier to prepare and prevent than repair and repent". To discuss your specific needs/wants and teach best practices to achieve optimal oral health helps you to be more confident, healthy and spend less of your valuable time and money with us and more on the people and experiences you enjoy (although we do love to see you).
- We can detect problems big or small. To catch current or potential problems while they are small increases your chance for successful treatment outcomes. Sometimes, this will be a modification in something you're doing at home. Other times, it will require intervention by the dentist, specialist or hygienist. Following the exam, you will receive a personalized treatment plan to address your needs. This serves as the blueprint for your future appointments.
- The type of cleaning you need can be determined. For most, this is a regular cleaning. Others may need a deeper cleaning to remove built up calculus that is below the gumline. If left untreated, this can destroy tooth supporting bone structure which may lead to tooth loss. This process is called periodontitis, and while there is no cure, an appropriate cleaning can help drastically decrease or even stop the progression.
